Doggo Won't Stop Playing Dead On Walks, Reddit Commentators Come To Investigate

Hi, friends! How is everyone's Saturday going? We hope that everyone is enjoying their weekend. We know we are! The reason we love weekends so much is particularly because of the quality time we get to spend with our doggos. We get to sleep in with them, get waken up by them to go on a walk, eat with them, and… you get the picture. 

Speaking of walks, today's article is about a doggo that won't stop playing dead on his walks with his hooman. Someone took to share on Reddit a photo of a gorgeous golden retriever laying on its back on the pavement paws up and everything. OP wrote, "my dog won't stop playing dead on walks…" and asked the community for advice. As you guys already know, Reddit comments do not disappoint. We've scrolled through all the different opinions people have and attached them all right here. Some of these are funny, some of these are informative, and others… uh, we'll let you be the judge of that.

    That's one way to do it. But… it's the same as when a child cries in a supermarket and you'd tell their parents to start throwing a tantrum too.. We could see how that can work but is it the best advice? Probably not. Especially if you're not trying to affirm this behavior.

    Font - Cascatia 13 hr. ago Mine was doing this, so I kept track of temperature and behavior on our evening walks. Over 80F and humid often led to him just lying down and refusing to budge. We walk after dark a lot (with lights) during summer.

    Now this, this we can get behind. With the recent heatwaves during the last couple of weeks, it's important we don't forget about our doggos! With all that fur they have, we can't even begin to imagine how hot they can get. Please make sure your puppies are hydrated and cool!

She is a brat sometimes though when we don't take our usual route to the off leash area. She's also 9 and has great recall so I'm not worried about her actually taking off or anything.

    Facial expression - srchin95 13 hr. ago My goldens would do this on a walk. I assumed they weren't happy about the direction we were going, generally home, so I would change direction a bit across the street or something then gradually return to the intended direction. Seemed to always work.

    Mammal - Sharmrock50. 9 hr. ago I have goldens too. They just won't walk, one block, they sit or lay down. The only thing that moves them is another dog coming along. Then I thank god it's going in my direction home! Summer now in SoCal, they will only go out to go to bathroom. Lay all day in the a/c and sometimes chew a treat, ball, or each other! Lazy girls!

    Rectangle - Equal_Sprinkles2743 This looks like the "but I don't want to go home yet" protest. Even on a long walk, my Goldie knows when you've made the turn for home. He also downs tools if he sees another dog that he wants to greet coming towards us. Once he's said hello, he's happy to carry on. · 12 hr. ago .

    Font - claymore3911. 4 hr. ago The usual cause is the walk is too long. Or, perhaps, you do not vary your walks and s/he's utterly bored. There is always a cause. From the facial expression, I suspect it's boredom.
